Hey, I’m Emily! I am an illustrator, muralist, & visual artist, born in Beijing and currently residing in Amiskwaciwâskahikan / Treaty 6 territory (Edmonton, Canada). My illustrations have received awards from national and international illustration competitions such as 3x3 Contemporary Illustration Professional Show, American Illustration, and Applied Arts. I am also a recent recipient of the 2021 Edmonton Artists’ Trust Fund Award. My clients include Reader's Digest, Telus Storyhive, Loblaws, ATB Financial, CBC Arts, Chatelaine, to name a few.
I am also passionate about Chinatown storytelling, preserving heritage and lived experiences of Chinatown through art-community projects. I started Chinatown Greetings in 2021, a platform for artists to share Chinatown stories, using artistic expression to amplify and call for community care in Chinatown.
I also currently serve on the Edmonton Arts Council Equity Committee. And co-organized the Royal Bison Art & Craft fair between 2018 - May 2022.
I love drawing in my sketchbook. I host a local sketchclub and released a publication of drawings titled #OnLocationYEG in 2019.
My upcoming youth non-fiction “Get Out and Vote” will be released through Orca Books on March, 14th, 2023!

Apart from my commercial illustration projects, I am working on a personal graphic novel and character study of "the last house in Chinatown". This story is about Asian diaspora, my own immigration story, and also the shelter that these 100-year old homes have provided folks like myself in Chinatown's history. This project was funded through the Canada Council for the Arts. I am also working on the next Chinatown Greetings campaign, which is a collective zine (art directed by photographer Jordon Hon), featuring photos by 10 Edmonton based artists sharing their love of Chinatown through their disposable camera lenses. The zine and photo exhibit is aimed to be open to the public in spring 2023.
