À propos de l'artiste
My musical journey
My musical journey commenced at the tender age of four under the nurturing guidance of my father, the esteemed late Professor Narinder Singh Banwait. Immersed in a household resonating with the melodies of the Punjab Gharana of Tabla, I found my earliest inspirations within the rich tapestry of classical music.
My father’s guidance not only imparted musical knowledge but instilled in me a deep reverence for the art form. His dedication towards Tabla and his lineage as a disciple of Ustad Bahadur Singh laid the foundation for my own aspirations in music. Under his guidance, I learned not just the technicalities of music but also imbibed the ethos of dedication, discipline, and devotion essential for any true disciple of this art form.
My academic achievements reflect my dedication to classical music. With a Doctorate in Indian Classical Music Vocal from Punjab University, Chandigarh, I embarked on a scholarly exploration into the intricacies of practice techniques. My thesis, titled “Importance and Techniques of Practice in Indian Classical Music” (Shastriya Sangeet mein Abhiyaas ka Swaroop avom Mahatva), delved deep into the essence of diligent practice and its profound significance in the realm of classical music. Additionally, holding titles of Sangeet Prabhakar and Sangeet Praveen in Indian Classical Music Vocal from Allahabad University, I showcase a profound understanding and expertise in various vocal genres including Khayal, Thumri, Ghazal, Bhajan, Kirtan and Punjabi Folk.
As I carry forth my dad’s and gurus legacy, I do so with a deep sense of gratitude and reverence, honoring not just their memory but the timeless tradition that they bestowed upon me. Through personalized instruction and mentorship, I aim to cultivate not just skilled musicians but also passionate advocates for the rich traditions of Indian classical music. My teaching philosophy emphasizes not only technical proficiency but also the importance of expression, creativity, and understanding the cultural heritage embedded within each musical note.
